Using Google Maps to Get Directions

I had a date on Friday night. We’ve been friends for a while, but I had never been to her house before. She gave me her address and basic directions, and then I turned to my friend Google.

Google Maps is really easy to use, and I’ve used it hundreds of times. You just type in the address, and it gives you a map. I was planning to use the hybrid view to get an idea of what the street looks like, but this service had a pleasant surprise for me “Street View is
now available for my community. Here is an example of an address with a street view.

The map appears, with a bubble in it with the address, a photograph, and a few clickable links. If you click the photograph, it expands to Street View, and you see the street, as though you were driving down it. From there you can click and drag to change your view, or click the white arrows to go forward up the street, or back up some. So now I knew what her house looked like, which made it really easy to find.

Then I needed a nice place for dinner in her area. Below the search box on the same page, I clicked Find Businesses and then typed “Restaurant” in the search box. It shows ten results at a time, with markers on the map indicating where they are. Clicking on restaurant names brings up a box on the map with their information. I searched through the several pages of results to find a nice dining establishment with a really good review, and we ate there. It was a great success!
