With Google’s constant search for various innovations and improvements, another amazing advancement for YouTube had been recently launched which uses Automatic Speech Recognition technology to generate captions. Google added automatic captions in YouTube to help anyone who is deaf, hearing-impaired or having difficulty understanding foreign languages.

Captions are not only useful for deaf people but to all internet users. It can also improve search and even enable users to jump to the exact parts of the videos that they are interested in.  You can also automatically translate automatic captions to other languages, so you can now watch or better understand videos from different countries.

Automatic captions are currently available on some education channels and most Google channels. This automatic captions feature is not yet perfect. Of course, it has some flaws because it’s machine-generated. But, if you have hearing disabilities or don’t understand the language of the videos that you’re watching, this is definitely the next best thing for you.

In addition to automatic captions, Google also supplemented another useful feature-Automatic timing. Automatic timing is available for all new video uploads. It helps video owners to add the manually-created captions to YouTube videos by automatically figuring our when the words are said in the video. This is very easy to do because you don’t need any time-codes, just a simple text transcript before uploading the file.

Now, with automatic captions and automatic timing, YouTube videos can now be accessed and enjoyed by everyone.
