Jaikuland Celebrates As Google Acquires Jaiku.Com
What’s Jaiku anyway? That was my first question after reading the announcement from Google’s Official Blog that they have acquired Jaiku. They have described Jaiku like a tool to keep in touch with our loved ones or to have updates on the whereabouts of our friends and acquaintances. All they have to do is post short messages, called Jaikus, to their streams using the Web or their phones.
So, I immediately went to Jaiku’s website to experience it for myself. Unfortunately, due to the acquisition, Jaiku currently don’t offer new registrations unless you are invited by a Jaiku user, or if you request for an invitation code. One existing user commented that she felt like she’s in the IN crowd since sign-ups are temporarily disabled.
Yeah, I felt jealous I’m not an existing Jaiku user; especially after reading the positive response from the IN crowd. Most people in Jaikuland are looking forward on how Google will integrate Jaiku’s features in their existing Apps. However, there are some users that have mixed feelings thinking this is also a bad news that Jaiku will not be as fun anymore after the acquisition.
Jaiku is from Finland and has been on service since July 2006. The terms of the acquisition is confidential, and even how much the company paid to acquire Jaiku is not revealed. The recent acquisition of Google before Jaiku was Postini on September 2007.
