How to Import Your Yahoo! Address Book to Gmail
I was once an active user of Yahoo Mail, until I switched to Gmail a year ago. Since most of my friends only send a bunch of chain mails, I didn’t thought of bringing my Yahoo Address Book to my Gmail account. I didn’t want to receive senseless emails in my Gmail anyways, even though Gmail has a spam filter.
Since I just graduated from College that time, my switch was a great timing as well. I was giving out my Gmail account to my professional and new contacts, and also used it when I was signing up on different social media sites, etc. .
However, lately I was thinking to move my Yahoo Address Book so it would be convenient for me to email an old friend. And yes my account there is still active since I open it once in a while, and I don’t have to sign in anymore to my Yahoo Mail account just to get his/her address once I moved the address book to my Gmail.
But how do you transfer a Yahoo Address Book to Gmail anyways? Is it possible and easy? Yes you can and here are the easy steps if you are using Yahoo Mail in Classic theme.
1. Click the ‘Contacts’ button, which is between ‘Mail’ and ‘Calendar’.
2. Click the ‘Import/Export’ link located at the right corner of the Contacts page.
3. At the bottom of ‘Import/Export’ page, choose Yahoo! CSV and click the ‘Export Now’ button.
4. Then save the file in your computer.
If you are using the new Yahoo! Mail theme follow these steps.
- Click ‘options’ at the right side of your Yahoo! Mail. Then ‘Mail Options’.
- Go to “Contacts Options”.
- You will then see the page in a classic view. Click “Import/Export’ at the right column, then follow the no. 3 and 4 steps mentioned above.
Once the CSV file is saved, log in to your Gmail account.
1. Click the Contacts link in the left menu, just below the Trash link. By the way, I am using the standard view.
2. At the bottom of the Contacts page, click Import.
3. In the Import page, browse the Yahoo! CSV file you saved earlier, and then click the Import button.
4. Once you are done importing the file, you will receive a confirmation message like this. Click OK.
If you are using the Basic HTML view with your Gmail account, you have to switch to Standard View. Just click the Standard Link at the bottom of your Gmail page.
Now that we are done importing our Yahoo! Address Book, let’s start emailing our friends of our new email account in Gmail. If you would like to do otherwise—moving your Gmail Address Book to your Yahoo Mail account—click here.
