Google’s Acquisition of Postini Now Official
Though Google acquired Postini for US$625 million in early July of 2007 , it is only on September 13 that Google officially announced Postini as a wholly owned subsidiary of Google.
Postini was acquired since Google realized that they “needed a more complete solution that addresses the information security and compliance issues facing larger businesses.”
Postini is a company that provides communication security and compliance services to more than 35,000 businesses worldwide. The comprehensive services can be used on:
- emails
- instant messaging
- web filtering and security
- message archiving, encryption, and policy enforcement
A more detailed information about the acquisition is found in Google’s FAQ on Postini.
With Postini as part of Google Apps, users should expect a better service since Postini’s spam and virus protection will be combined with Google’s spam protection system. Postani and Google, however, are still thinking of other ways how Postani’s services will be integrated with Google’s current applications like Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Talk.
