Google Street View Car Busted?
So, there’s no exception for Google’s car?
One of the vigilant citizens of California, damianspain, caught one of Google’s street view cars being detained for some sort of traffic violation in San Francisco Bay area. I just found this out when my friend send me a link to this post.
I’m actually impressed on the kind of camera Google is using to snap those ‘street view’ photos for Google Maps and Google Earth. And I wonder when will those Google cars visit Metro Manila, and see the cars myself; though I’m sure the possibility is slim, or will take years before it happens. Most streets here aren’t ‘photogenic’. Sigh.

google uses cobalts though…
That’s not a google car. They are all uniform and all black. While hthe cameras are not hidden, they are far from that obvious. I don’t know why that guy has 4 wide view camera mounted on to a roof totem, but he deffinetly isn’t with google.
It is. If you look closely at car’s right door, there’s a Google logo there. I also know most other Google street view cars are black…but here are other images showing a streetview car that isn’t black.

That Google logo on the door looks (badly) Photoshopped to me…
Yeah, I had thought of that too… but as I mentioned on my previous comment I saw some street view cars that looked similar to that car that was busted.
Anyways, here’s the link where the photo (I cropped) came from.

And here’s one post from Blogoscoped with a photo that showed a streetview’s door with Google logo.
I don’t know about “ALL” Google Streetview cars being black. The one that mapped the keys was gray, as can be seen if you enter ’878 Center Street Key West Florida’ and look down. In my unproffesional opinion, they all look like rental cars.
p.s. there’s a glitch in the street view if you go down (south) Duval Street in Key West at address 858 that jumps you over to Center Street and back.
Hi guyz…look: the car u see in the picture is a Google car, and then…yes, there are also black cars in other countries, I mean in Europe (Italy). I’m a Google car driver from Italy, I drive a black car Opel astra model, and I’ve got the same kind of cameras on the top of my car. I can’t tell you nothing more, anyway i think it’s a wonderful job, i like it so much, and i hope to come in the States soon…take it easy…bye.
Wow so that’s how they do it!I always thought they used the satellite for that. So much less impressive.
who needs a car with a damn camera on it driving around, its bad enough you can type in an address and now actually view the street as if you were standing there. pretty dangerous if you ask me
@Pregnancy,
But if they use satellite, I don’t think we will be able to see the pictures as if we are walking the street. The top view I guess, they use satellite, but not the street view.
hahaha muahah
If you think that is not a Google car, you need to find a reflection of the car taking the pictures in Google earth. That is the exact camera found in a lot of reflections. But then again, bloggers know everything…
