Google Building Maker: Create 3D Buildings for Google Earth
If you think that Google Maps is pretty awesome, wait until you try Google Building Maker. This new online app is a fun, easy, and interesting activity for anyone to take on. Google Building Maker is a simple 3D modeling tool that is used to add buildings, bridges, houses, and other structures to Google Earth.
You don’t have to possess any special skills or advance knowledge in architecture to start making different models of structures. All you need is an internet connection, web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Safari, Internet Explorer, etc.), latest version of Google Earth, and a little of your time.
Here are the 4 easy steps for you to start making your own building:
1. Select a location to model. Google provides the tools in making the buildings as well as the building photos. Of course, you need a web browser and Google Earth for this fun activity. Google Building Maker has 50 available cities for you to choose from. Don’t worry if your location is not yet included for Google is doing its best to add your city in the near future. Make sure that you have the Google Earth plug-in installed before starting to build a building.
2. Align blocks with the photos to create the building. Make sure to choose the block and shape which resembles the look of your building. Align the blocks to the corners as seen with your photos. Move to the next image and align the corners there as well. To start with, Google provides six images to help you create your building. You can also use Google SketchUp to enhance the look and texture of your building. To preview your building in Google Earth, click the “viewer” tab located beside the “editor” tab on the menu bar.
3. Save your model to the Google 3D Warehouse. Provide a title and description for the building you have just made.
4. Wait for your model to get approved for Google Earth. If your model has been accepted for Google Earth, your model will now be seen by millions of internet users worldwide.
You don’t have to be an architect to build your own building. With Google Building Maker, you and your friends can now create 3D buildings and other structures the fun and easy way.
