Show Music Status in Gtalk
I’d been wondering for days, how does the Music Status Sharing work. Supposedly, I can start sharing to my Gtalk friends the title of the songs I am listening to after enabling the feature in my Gtalk Settings. However, after enabling it, I still did not see in Gtalk the songs that were played in my Windows Media Player.
(To enable the feature, I went to ‘Settings’, located at the top right corner of my Gtalk. In the pop-up window, I clicked ‘Audio’ and checked the box for ‘Share music listening history with Google Music Trends.’)
So yesterday, I googled again what to do with this feature and found this post that showed more steps on activating it. So if you were also wondering like me, here are the additional steps for Windows Media Player:
- Open Windows Media Player.
- In the toolbar go to Tools > Plug-ins > Options
- In the Plug-ins tab, select Background among the categories listed.
- Check the box for Google Talk Music Plugin
- Click OK.
- Then click the ‘Show current music track’ status in your Gtalk.
Once you are done with these steps. You will see on your status the title of the song you are listening to, as well as the singer’s name, if available. Your listening history will also be shared with Google Music Trends.
Unlike Windows Media Player, Music Status Sharing feature automatically works with iTunes, old versions of Winamp, or Yahoo Music Engine. I learned this after installing these music players in my computer.
